A Vibrant Life at Ranfurly Village | Jackie Wilkinson

Ranfurly Village News

Ranfurly Village resident, Jackie Wilkinson, is an inspiring individual who embraces life with an open mind and a positive attitude. To her, opportunities are a gift. Her decision to move to Ranfurly Village has allowed her to continue enjoying a rich and fulfilling life without the burdens of home maintenance.

When Jackie returned from England, she set about renovating her house - painting, wallpapering, sanding - but all the while, she thought, "I will not be the one to do this again." Several years later, when things in the house started needing work again, she realised it was time for a change. Jackie began planning the rest of her life and explored various options. Retirement villages were one of them, and when she visited Ranfurly Village, she knew instantly it was the right place for her.

Choosing Ranfurly Village made sense to Jackie because it relieved her of maintenance and gardening responsibilities. Her weekends became free, even while she was still working, allowing her to enjoy other activities.   Life at Ranfurly offers a wealth of choice; residents have the freedom to embrace village life as much or as little as they choose. Over time, Jackie has become more involved in village  life while keeping her outside interests, which has enriched her life significantly.

One of the aspects Jackie enjoys most about living at Ranfurly Village is the lock-up-and-leave lifestyle. She no longer has to make arrangements like homeowners do when they go away; she simply packs her suitcase and leaves. Earlier this year, she went to Fiordland and trekked the Hollyford Track, and her next adventure is a trip to Europe.

Jackie describes the environment at Ranfurly Village as elegant and very well-designed. The apartment blocks have lovely wide corridors, and Ranfurly House has been beautifully restored, offering a peaceful and classy atmosphere that sets the village  apart. Her friends who visit love the environment.

Jackie plays an active role in the village  community. She loves books, and when Ranfurly House was restored, it provided a fantastic library. She took over running the library several years ago and volunteers one day a week with a dedicated team. She also volunteers for the Auckland Philharmonia, which she finds extremely rewarding.

Ranfurly Village’s location is another factor that makes it ideal. It is about 20 minutes from anywhere in Auckland, with a bus stop conveniently located across the road, providing easy access to the city or Mount Eden Village for a coffee. In addition, the village  offers excellent amenities such as a gym, pool, library, and cafe. The village offers everything one could need.

Jackie advises those considering a retirement village not to leave it too long. Moving in while having vitality and energy allows one to enjoy everything the retirement village has to offer. She recommends considering the proximity to favourite activities and the available amenities.

For Jackie, Ranfurly Village is more than just a place to live. When she shuts her door, it’s her home - not just an apartment in a block. It’s furnished the way she likes, has everything she wants, and is secure and warm. She calls it her “TÅ«rangawaewae” - her place - and she can’t think of anywhere better to live.
