We've re-branded to reflect our ‘generosity of spirit’

Retirement Assets Limited (RAL), the Christchurch-based development company behind a new genre of boutique retirement villages has changed its name to Generus Living Group.

The re-brand comes after the company, founded in 1994, decided it wanted its corporate identity to convey the generosity of spirit behind its unique approach to creating retirement communities.

Graham Wilkinson, Director, says: “The name Generus Living Group is a perfect fit for the business. It captures the giving nature of the company and alludes to the careful thought that we put into all aspects of designing, building and operating each of our villages.”

Mr Wilkinson says the Generus Living Group is at the forefront of bringing a new level of premium village living, unseen before in New Zealand, to the retirement market.

“If you think of retirement villages as hotel chains, then ours are the five star offerings whereby accommodation, ambience, facilities and service are all second to none. 

“Our villages have each been designed by award-winning, contemporary architects and we enlist professional interior designers to furnish and fit out all our homes, social hubs and leisure facilities.

“We build our villages with an individuality that befits their location and we strive to preserve any historical connections. For example, The Russley Village in Christchurch sits on the old site of the iconic Russley Hotel. It has been styled as quintessentially Cantabrian with picket fences, rose gardens, sculptures as well as subtle ornate features on many of the buildings.

“Similarly, Pacific Coast Village in the Bay of Plenty has a resort feel about it, in keeping with its coastal location. Partnered with landowners, Mangatawa Papamoa Blocks Incorporated, Pacific Coast is highly respectful of the heritage associated with the land on which it has been built.”

Mr Wilkinson further explains that the company’s ‘generosity of spirit’ also extends through to the high level of care and service provided at each village – as well as a ‘fairness’ around fees* currently unmatched by any other retirement village operator.

“We continue to aspire to new levels of service excellence and we’re using innovation and technology to help us deliver this,” Mr Wilkinson says. ”Last year our Auckland care facility, Ranfurly Hospital, received the NZACA Excellence in Care Award in the food category, and the Overall Excellence in Aged Care Award for our meals, which our residents order via hand-held tablets using software developed specifically for this purpose.”

Mr Wilkinson adds the new name will give the company a solid marketing platform for the future, while allowing each of the individual villages to retain their own well-established identities.

Generus Living Group’s villages include:
Ranfurly Village, Mount Albert, Auckland.
Pacific Coast Village, Papamoa, Bay of Plenty.
The Russley Village, Burnside, Christchurch.
Holly Lea Village, Fendalton, Christchurch.

*Typically, retirement villages continue to charge weekly outgoings fees after a property becomes empty until it has been re-sold. Generus Living Group does not charge any on-going fees to residents or their estate once a property has been vacated. If a property remains unsold after six months, Generus Living Group will add back any deferred management fees previously deducted to the sum repaid – at the same rate as they were originally deducted or amortised.
