In a poignant ceremony at Ranfurly, we gather each year to honour our heroes on Anzac Day. This cherished tradition is eagerly anticipated by the residents of Ranfurly Village and Ranfurly Hospital.
Anzac Day, observed annually on April 25th, marks the anniversary of the brave landing of Australian and New Zealand soldiers at Gallipoli in 1915 during World War I. It serves as a moment of solemn reflection, gratitude, and tribute to the sacrifices made by servicemen and women in defence of their nations.
This year, the Ranfurly Veteran’s Trust orchestrated a deeply moving tribute to those who have served and sacrificed for our country, hosting an Anzac Day service on the lawns at Ranfurly. The presence of the Band of the Royal Regiment of NZ Artillery and the 3/6 Battalion, RNZIR Catafalque Party lent a striking spectacle to the ceremony. Guest speakers, Maj (Rtd) Greg Moyle ED JP and Hon Chris Penk, Minister for Veterans, eloquently upheld the profound significance of the occasion.
Ranfurly Hospital is honoured to have four remarkable veterans in its care this Anzac Day. While unfortunately, they were unable to attend the service, their collective presence symbolises a profound testament to the enduring spirit of our nation's defenders.
We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who played a part in organizing this event, from our devoted staff to our dedicated volunteers. It was truly heartening to see our community unite to honour our heroes and show their respects.
This year marks the 121st anniversary since the establishment of the Veteran’s Home, now known as Ranfurly Village. As we contemplate the significance of Anzac Day, we are reminded of the historical legacy of this property, which was transformed into a sanctuary for veterans in 1903. Initially housing veterans of the Crimean War and the New Zealand Wars, the property has since evolved to offer modern facilities and services for veterans. Today, the partnership between the Ranfurly Veterans’ Trust and Generus Living Group ensures retirement living at its finest.
